Let The Festivities Begin!

Last night we had my parents over for dinner and some Halloween Festivities :) For dinner we had my famous

Broccoli Cheese Chowder:

Your family will love this rich and smooth broccoli cheese chowder. Try serving with bread or in bread bowls. It's also delicious with asiago bagels.

2 bunches (about 1 pound) fresh broccoli
1 medium onion, chopped
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup butter
1/2 flour
4 cups milk
1 cup chicken broth
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
2 cups grated cheddar cheese

Cook broccoli just until tender. Do not overcook. Drain and cut into small pieces; set aside. Saute chopped onion in the 1/4 cup butter until tender; set aside. In a large saucepan or soup pot prepare a white sauce: melt the 1/2 cup butter over medium heat, then stir in flour until well blended. Gradually stir in milk, chicken broth, and salt. Stir constantly until mixture reaches a boil. Cook 1 to 2 minutes until thickened. Add broccoli and onion. Stir in cheese. Cook briefly over medium heat. Avoid bringing to a boil. Serve immediately or keep warm over low heat. Makes 6-8 servings.

After dinner we let our food settle while watching Brian Regan and laughing hysterically. :) Then we carved pumpkins...

Mom and I digging in

Yuck!

Mom and Dad "gutting" their pumpkin

Yuck! Loving my face in this one... this was actually really fun.

The finished product :) Haha, Matt and I's is on the left and Mom and Dad's is on the right.

Can you tell which object doesn't belong? Dad trying to be a pumpkin... he looks just the others - dontcha think?

Matt being a serious pumkin...

Matt being a happy pumpkin.

Matt being a cheesy pumpkin

The pumpkin with the crooked smile...

Haha, This picture just makes me laugh - my mom is famous for this face - especially with the little girls in the ward :) The Crooked Face.

Haha - isn't she just beautiful? ;) We were being a little too goofy at this point :)

After carving the pumpkins we had pumpkin bread and milk and talked for a while before they left :) It was a fun night and a fun way to start the Halloween Festivities.

Oddly enough, that last face of your mom's reminds me of you. I think you do a very similar goofy face. The resemblance is uncanny! :)

You and your mom's pics are cool because of how clear the reflection on the table is. It adds an extra dimension of silly to the picture. Looks like you guys had fun!
