Tuesday Tip: Keep Guac from Turning BROWN!

Is it just me, or is it really annoying to make a delicious batch of guacamole and then have it turn brown?!  I also love the guacamole from Whole Foods, but I have the same issue.  It's especially hard since Matt doesn't like guacamole so I have to eat all by myself.  I know, poor me, right? ;)  Well, I have a solution for you and it's easy--like most of my Tuesday Tips!  The purpose of these tips IS to make life easier after all.

After making the guacamole you can set some aside to eat immediately and then put the rest in a airtight container.  Make sure you pack it in there tightly.  I used a spoon to press it down and it did the trick.  Then you cover it in 1/4 to 1/2 inch of water.  I know, you are probably gagging right now, but it stays on top and keeps the guacamole from turning brown!  Then, when you are ready to enjoy some more guacamole, you just poor the water off, stir in the remaining moisture, and enjoy!

This picture was taken right after I poured the water off, but before mixing it.  This was a couple days after making this guacamole!!
Amazing huh?!  It looks even better after you mix it up.

I've also heard that putting the avocado pits in with it will help it to not turn brown, but I've never tried it.  Leave a comment and let me know if you've tried that one!

Here are the ingredients I used to make the guacamole.  It's not a recipe because there are so many variables from how many avocados you use to how salty you like it, etc.  Just start out with the avocados, mash them up, but not too much and then add the following things little by little until it tastes just right!

Avocados
Lime Juice
Diced Fresh Tomatoes
Cilantro
Garlic Salt
Cumin
Kosher Salt
Pepper

Very very cool! The pit doesn't work. I learned how to make mexican and south american food from an el salvador family and they take plastic wrap and push it down on top of tge guac really tight squishing tge air out and then put the lid on top works for me! (Oh and a dollop of sour cream with lime and lowrys makes it over the top good!) Sounds like we're both foodies too!;)
