FET #4: Transfer Day!

I wrote all of these entries on the dates listed, but we weren't ready to post them until now.  If you know the outcome of our latest treatment, please don't give it away in the comments until after the "FET #6: Results!" post has been posted.

Today is Transfer Day!  This morning we woke up early to make it to the 9:00 am session at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.  We needed to feel that extra strength and peace today.  Best decision.  (You can learn more about temples here).  There is just nothing like the peace you feel in the Lord's house.  It was so wonderful to be there with Matt and to feel so much peace about this next step.  We know the Lord is guiding us.

After the temple we went out to lunch.  Matt said we could go anywhere and I was really feeling like Philly Cheesesteaks.  Man I love those things with all of my heart.

When we arrived at the Utah Fertility Center we sat in the waiting room for a while before the nurse came to give me some Valium.  I was already exhausted, but man that stuff knocked me out.  Thirty minutes later, when the nurse came to get us, I was fast asleep on the couch.

The nurse took us back to the room and we waited for a few minutes.  When Dr. Foulk came in I felt immediately at peace.  He is just so kind, friendly, and positive.  We took a picture and he talked to us for a few minutes.  He also made sure to give me a hard time about falling asleep on the couch in the waiting room.  Then he said, "I was completely shocked when your last cycle didn't work!  Every month I make a guess as to which cycles will be successful and I'm 80% accurate.  I was sure you guys would be one of the successes, but you fell into that 20% category.  This time I'm placing my bets on you again and there is just no way you're beating those odds twice." Then he showed us a picture of our cute embryos.  He said they thawed two and both had survived the thaw and were looking great!

Here we are with Dr. Foulk.  He is such an incredible doctor!

Here's a picture of our embryos!  (Technically these are 5 day old blastocysts).  Dr. Foulk explained that they look a little different than the other ones because when they are frozen they shrink down.  They are still expanding in this picture.

By the time we started the transfer my "semi-full bladder" had turned into a very full bladder which made it a little uncomfortable.  Dr. Foulk was inserting the catheter and the nurse was putting lots of pressure on my bladder with the ultrasound equipment.  After the transfer the nurse gave us the post-transfer instructions: two days of bed rest, no heavy lifting, no running, etc.  Then I was instructed to lay there for 20 minutes or so before I could finally get up and use the bathroom.  Fingers crossed and lots of prayers being said around here!
