Getting Involved

I really enjoyed this experience and realized today that I never blogged about it.  Back in November I had an opportunity to go out and collect signatures to make sure Mitt Romney made it on the primary ballot in Indiana.  Even though it was a little cold, I loved every second of it.  Some people were mean, some were hilarious.  I've never thought of myself as a good "salesman," but I was pretty good at talking people into signing.  I was even able to get several Obama supporters to sign!!

They sent me a Romney shirt for helping out, and it quickly became my favorite "after work" shirt.  It's so soft and bright (not to mention my love of Mitt).  Go Mitt!

Ashton, Idaho:

This past weekend Matt and I went to Idaho with Mom and Dad and Michael to visit Matt's extended family in Ashton, Idaho.

We left on Thursday morning around 11 am and got there around 4 pm. Then we hung out with family and unpacked our things at uncle Brad's house till the BYU game started. I just have to say that the elderly are hilarious!!! Matt's great aunt GraceAnn was staying with his grandparents while we were there. When she found out that Matt and I were married she was really surprised cause she said we look too young to be married - I think this confused her a little. But after realizing that we are married she said, "I'm sleeping in the room next to them!" Haha, we just had to laugh - we were sleeping in a different house, but I just think it's funny that old people can get away with saying anything they want and it's funny :) haha For dinner we had taco salad while we watched the game.... not a good way to start our vacation... anyway... after that we stayed up really late watching the Horse Whisperer. Friday morning Matt went hunting with his uncles and cousin then we had a big breakfast and head out on our long, gorgeous drive...

First stop - Warm River to feed the fish:

Matt - he was LOVING this :) it is illegal to fish in this part of the river, but Matt said he was going to get a 2x4, tie some hooks to it, and "accidentally" float it down the river ;)

After feeding the fish, while we were driving to Mesa Falls, Matt said something so funny it needs to be recorded: Matt - "I think fish are my favorite animals." Mom - "Really why?" Matt - "Because they don't come on land and bug me." Haha, you might need to know Matt for this to be funny - but he doesn't really like animals - especially pets. He claims it is because when he was growing up his sisters always had animals, but he was the one who had to clean up after them. :) haha

Third Stop: Warm River Falls

Fourth Stop: The Drug Store

Matt and I eating our milkshakes, this store is famous for it's milkshakes in Ashton - but it's closing next month - We had to go for my first and last time, and Matt's last time :(

This was all the gum under the bar where we were sitting... this really was an old, small town drug store! :)

Fifth Stop: Ott's Place - I didn't take any pictures but Matt's uncle Brad owns a bar in town... we went to visit for about 2 minutes... it was an interesting experience. It just made me realize how much happiness comes from living the gospel and doing what is right.

After all this we went to Grandma Purcell's house and played cards for a bit before going hunting - this time I tagged along and it was actually pretty fun :) After hunting we came home and had dinner, watched a movie and went to bed (I actually fell asleep during the movie - as always ;))
On Saturday we drove home - actually I drove home - I never realized how exhausted and sore you can get from driving!

You know, I'm not one to get too upset about these things and generally I can respect people's opinions on things - even if they differ from my own. I have my own ideas about taxes, oil drilling, the economy ect and other people have theirs, even if I don't agree - I can respect them for having an opinion. I definitely do not agree with Obama's ideas of incessantly taxing the hardworking to give to the lazy - what is the American dream if everyone's reward is the same?! These things make me frustrated and worried for our future. But, NOTHING makes me MORE FURIOUS than the idea of abortion - the CARELESS MURDER OF BABIES! That is what it is folks and Obama even supports LIVE BIRTH ABORTION! Do you know what that is?

THIS IS WRONG! Abortion is wrong - except in situations where 1. the mother's life is in danger, 2. rape, 3. incest. In these cases I believe that the mother should be given the choice, during the FIRST trimester - not after the baby is born! However I believe that in cases where the mother was given choice when she chose to conceive she has now lost that freedom of choice because it affects the baby as well. As with all rights and freedoms they only extend until they affect the freedoms of another. Classic example - free speech. Free speech is wonderful until you yell fire in a movie theater and someone gets trampled on in the process. Same thing applies. The rights of the mother are great - but they DO NOT just affect her. An innocent life is at stake. How can Obama support the killing of innocent life while at the same time protect the lives of innocent American lives.... sounds like a contradiction to me. This is wrong and I can not understand how anyone can agree with this or "look past it" in their political views. I hear some people saying - "ya, but I agree with everything else - so I'll just over look that part." You are on one side of the fence or the other. If you stand idly by and support - or even fail to contradict this horrible and disgusting infanticide - you are just as bad as the people killing these innocent babies. Protect LIFE.

You Can’t Fake Authenticity: Love This!!

What is it about Sarah Palin that has gotten the liberal media’s knickers in a twist? Why are they criticizing, even mocking, everything from her hair to her faith?

She is exactly what the feminists claim to want and admire in women: strong, self-assured, a working mom, a political leader. But wait, she is a conservative Republican and because of that they hate her for displaying all of the aforementioned characteristics.

They are appalled that she would keep a Down Syndrome child when she could have aborted him. They are outraged when she speaks of God as if she knows Him, when their only acquaintance with the name is as a curse word, followed by “damn.” They are even disgusted that she has five children, as they think one (or two if you are Obama) is enough.

Sarah Palin is to the left what sunlight is to a vampire. Her high heels have knocked them back on the heels of their comfortable shoes.

She has galvanized and united the social and economic conservatives, when the left thought it saw an unbridgeable divide between the “oil and water” elements of the Republican Party.

The USA Today-Gallup Poll published Monday shows a ten point advantage for McCain-Palin among likely voters — the most important constituency. That is a remarkable turnaround when you consider Obama received an eight-point bounce from the Democratic Convention, which has now been wiped-out.

I think it has something to do with the fact that average people, who live in what the left thinks of as “flyover” country, identify with a woman who has an intact, yet imperfect family. They can visualize her pushing a grocery cart at the supermarket and shopping at Wal-Mart.

You can’t fake genuineness and if this trend continues, Obama and the entire Democratic Party — which thought it had this election in the bag — will be left to wonder over the next four years how they got their pockets picked by someone they arrogantly consider a yahoo from moose country.
